Power to the People Stage Celebrates 25 Years of Amplifying BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ Voices at Twin Cities Pride (6/28/26)

Special Ceremony Honoring Nick Metcalf Set for Sunday at 2:00 PM

Minneapolis, MN,  June 5th 2026 — The Power to the People Stage, a vital and transformative platform within Twin Cities Pride, is celebrating its 25th Anniversary during Pride Weekend, June 27–28, 2026.

Founded in 2001, the Power to the People Stage was created to intentionally center the voices, artistry, and leadership of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), as well as transgender, nonbinary, and marginalized LGBTQIA+ communities. Over the past 25 years, it has become a cornerstone of Pride—offering a powerful space for performance, activism, storytelling, and community healing.

“This stage has always been about more than entertainment. it’s about truth-telling, visibility, and building power in our communities,” said Rox Anderson of RARE Productions and Our Space MN. “For 25 years, we’ve created space for voices that deserve to be front and center at Pride.”

As part of the anniversary celebration, organizers will host a special ceremony honoring Nick Metcalf on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Metcalf is recognized for his enduring leadership and commitment to uplifting marginalized voices and helping shape the legacy of the Power to the People Stage.

The stage was started by Rox and Nick shaped by the work of Minnesota Men of Color, Rox Anderson, and a network of artists, organizers, and advocates who ensure that Pride remains rooted in equity, intersectionality, and community voice.

“For many performers and community members, the Power to the People Stage has been a home—a place to be fully seen and heard,” organizers shared. “That impact is what makes this 25-year milestone so powerful.”

The anniversary weekend will feature a dynamic lineup of performances, speakers, and community tributes, reflecting the diversity, creativity, and resilience of the communities the stage serves.
